8. Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many acres of land were ploughed in Wales for which payment will be made under the Agriculture (Ploughing Grants) Act, 1952; and what are the figures for each of the Welsh counties.

Around 100,000 acres of grassland ploughed up in Wales this spring may qualify for the £5 per acre ploughing up subsidy. Final figures will not be available until claims have been examined and payments completed.

The county estimates are as follows:
