§ Mr. Geoffrey LloydThe Chief Scientist's Division is concerned with promoting research and development in the efficient use of fuel and power. It consists of a scientific branch which investigates new methods of using conventional fuels and new sources of energy; a fuel efficiency branch which promotes the application of existing technical knowledge with the object of saving fuel; and 7W a separate establishment responsible for research designed to improve the safety, health and welfare of men working in coal mines.
