Thomasasked the Minister of Education whether she is aware of the continued difficulty caused to both teachers and local education authorities by the imposition of Purchase Tax on educational equipment; and whether she has taken this matter into consideration in connection with her drive for economy in the education service.
§ Miss HorsbrughI am well aware of the views of the authorities and teachers on this subject. As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the statement recently made by my right hon. Friend the Financial Secretary during the Committee stage of the Finance Bill.
