Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many African delegates were accommodated at the Government hostel, Livingstone, during the Conference on Closer Association; what reasons were given by the two civil servants for leaving the hostel on the arrival of the African delegates; and whether the hostel is normally open for the accommodation of both Europeans and Africans.
§ Mr. LytteltonFive African delegates were accommodated at this hostel. The hostel was built primarily to house European officers stationed at Livingstone, where there is an acute shortage of 155W housing. It is normally occupied only by Europeans. The two junior officials who left the hostel were not, of course, required to state their reasons.
