§ 52. Mr. H. Hyndasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much is being spent monthly by the Civil Service on overtime working and work done by agencies, respectively.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe monthly amounts of overtime payment vary considerably owing to the seasonal nature of some of the work. The average for 1951 was about £1,140,000. I am not clear what sort of agencies the hon. Member has in mind, but the average monthly amount spent in 1951 on contract cleaning and agency typists was about £25,000.
