HC Deb 04 February 1952 vol 495 c95W
129. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, what proportion of medical staff have resigned from the pneumoconiosis research unit at Llandough Hospital, Cardiff, during the past month; and whether he will make a statement on the future operations of this research unit.

Mr. Molson

Of the medical staff of 11 on this unit, the director and one other member have recently been offered university appointments. Their resignations to take these posts do not denote any change in the unit's policy, and the whole of its current research programme will be continued, except that, on the director's advice, certain purely physical studies which seemed unlikely to lead to important new results will not be developed further. Two non-medical members of the staff who were concerned with the physical work have sought and obtained posts elsewhere. The name of the new director will be announced shortly.
