HC Deb 04 February 1952 vol 495 c78W
65. Mr. Hayman

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider the inclusion of Cornwall amongst those areas to which special concessions will be given on rail charges, because of the long distance from the main centres of distribution with special reference to the horticultural and fishing industries.

Mr. Maclay

The increase of 10 per cent. in railway freight rates which I authorised to take effect from 31st December last was limited by a maximum addition of 10s. per ton generally. This limitation was designed to help the more distant parts of the country. The future position will, of course, be governed by the charges schemes which will be settled by the Transport Tribunal.
