HC Deb 04 February 1952 vol 495 c72W
53. Mr. Paget

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many petitions for review have been received from German soldiers and sailors in British custody in Germany within the last 12 months or any other convenient period; and what action has been taken upon these petitions.

Mr. Eden

On 1st January, 1951, 32 former members of the German armed forces were detained as war criminals in British custody in Germany. Of these, seven were released during 1951: a further two are due for release next month. During the year 1951, four of these prisoners submitted petitions for review or clemency. All petitions are taken into account in the review of sentences now in progress, but are not the only factors affecting a decision.
