HC Deb 04 February 1952 vol 495 cc68-9W
20. Mr. A. Evans

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the amount of coal contracted to be bought from the United States of America between 1st November, 1951, and a recent convenient date; the amount of these contracts subsequently cancelled; and the actual amount delivered to our ports.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

Up to the end of the third week of January, the National Coal Board had purchased 460,000 tons of American coal, which is all but 40,000 tons of the authorised programme. One hundred and two thousand five hundred tons have already arrived in this country. So far, contracts for 190,000 tons have been cancelled.
