58. Mr. J. T. Priceasked the President of the Board of Trade what steps are being taken by his Department to arrest constant drift of industry from Lancashire to the midlands and the south, having particularly in mind the already inflated size of London and the growing unemployment and insecurity in Lancashire.
§ Mr. H. StraussI do not agree that there has been a constant drift of industry from Lancashire. Our policy on location of industry is to restrict new development in London and other congested areas and to encourage it in areas most in need of new industry. As the hon. Member is aware, my right hon. Friend recently announced measures which should assist in promoting new industrial development in certain parts of Lancashire.
