HC Deb 09 December 1952 vol 509 cc30-1W
95. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether it has now been decided that the United Kingdom should ratify the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation Agreement of 2nd November, 1950, concerning the importation of educational, scientific and cultural materials.

Mr. Mackeson

Yes. Her Majesty's Government have come to the conclusion that the carrying out of this Agreement would help to promote freer conditions over a small, but culturally and socially important, field. They are, therefore, now prepared to ratify the Agreement as soon as the necessary modifications in United Kingdom tariff and import regulations can be made. This work has been put in hand.
