§ 87. Mr. Nabarroasked the President of the Board of Trade what consideration has been given by his Department to the use of the South Bank site for a permanent London location for the British Industries Fair; and whether he will state the considered advantages or otherwise, of this arrangement compared with Earls Court.
§ Mr. MackesonThis possibility has been examined, but it was found that the site would be too small unless a building with several storeys were erected. Such a building would be expensive and, in the opinion of many people, unsuitable for the Fair. There were other difficulties. also.
§ Mr. Nabarroasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make representations to the appropriate authorities to improve communications for 28W foreign buyers, between Earls Court, London, and Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham, by the use of fast through rail services between the two points, appropriately equipped with restaurant and buffet cars, and also by the use of aeroplane and helicopter services.
§ Mr. MackesonI am in touch with the appropriate authorities to see what can be done to improve communications between London and Castle Bromwich during the period of the British Industries Fair.
