HC Deb 09 December 1952 vol 509 cc43-4W
133. Mr. C. I. Orr-Ewing

asked the Minister of Works why there are railings around the Albert Memorial to prevent children entering and playing round this memorial as they used to prior to 1939; and if he will arrange that this restriction is also abolished.

Mr. Eccles

The railings are an integral part of the Memorial. Until war damage repairs can be completed the gates are being kept closed to protect the public against the possibility of injury from falling fragments. The remaining repairs will be carried out when resources can be made available and the gates will then be re-opened.
