56. Mr. H. Thorneycroft

asked the Secretary of State for War the cost of moving the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, to Kenya; and how far the charges in this connection will be borne by War Office Votes.

Mr. Head

This battalion was moved to Kenya in aircraft of the Royal Air Force. The cost of the move was about £83,000 and this will not be borne by Army Votes.

57. Mr. H. Thorneycroft

asked the Secretary of State for War how many National Service men are at present serving with the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, in Kenya.

On 31st October this year, the latest date for which figures are available, seven officers and 292 other ranks in this unit were National Service men.
