HL Deb 04 December 1952 vol 179 c814WA
VISCOUNT MONSELL

asked Her Majesty's Government whether any steps are being taken or are contemplated for dealing with the nightly infestation of starlings which is making a disgusting mess in the streets, trees and buildings of an important part of the City of Westminster, and which, if allowed to continue, may well be a menace to public health.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES (LORD CARRINGTON)

Earlier in the year attention was drawn in another place to the nuisance to which the noble Viscount refers, and my right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, after consulting some of his colleagues, arranged, in collaboration with my right honourable friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government, for an investigation of the problem in consultation with representatives of the interests most closely affected. The results of this examination have not yet been reported, but I understand that they will be received in the very near future. It will then be possible to consider whether any action can be taken that is likely to be effective.

House adjourned at seven minutes before six o'clock
