HC Deb 04 December 1952 vol 508 cc169-70W
69. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that though the National Service recruit is informed that the normal interval between completion of medical examination and the receipt of enlistment notice is four to six weeks, the interval is, in fact, often eight to 13 weeks; and if, in view of the unsettlement caused to the recruit and frequent difficulties caused to the employer, he will take steps to see that a more reliable estimate is given.

Sir W. Monckton

I could not give any more accurate estimate of the normal interval between medical examination and call-up than that contained in the leaflet (N.L.2), a copy of which I recently sent to the hon. Member. As explained in that leaflet, the actual interval must vary from case to case, and it is often inevitably longer than the normal.
