HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 cc128-9W
22. Colonel Gomme-Duncan

asked the Secretary of State for War why, according to the Army Estimates, 1952–53, 34 persons are to be employed in the Home Section of the British Army News Unit; and what are the duties of these persons.

Mr. Head

This civilian staff is employed on a news service for Army newspapers, the Forces Broadcast Network, etc., overseas; in the distribution of United Kingdom newspapers to overseas commands; and in the production and distribution of the Army magazine "Soldier." The cost of about 14 of this staff is met from the sales of this magazine, which is self-supporting.
