Major Lloydasked the Minister of National Insurance, how many cases of misrepresentation or non-disclosure of material facts have been brought to the notice of the National Assistance Board since 1948; what have been the amounts recovered compared with those recoverable; and how many questions as to the amounts recoverable have been referred to the appeal tribunal.
§ Mr. TurtonI am informed by the National Assistance Board that up to 31st March last there had been about 14,000 cases where deliberate misrepresentation or non-disclosure of material facts was suspected, and the amount overpaid was about £220,000. The records of the recoveries of overpayments do not give a separate total for these cases. The number of appeals in the period was nine.
