Mr. Vaneasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will consult the British Electricity Authority as to the possibility of the use of existing poles carrying overhead telephone lines to carry the electric mains in addition, and so hasten and cheapen the distribution of electricity in rural areas.
§ Mr. GammansAgreements were made last year with the British Electricity Authority and the area electricity boards for the joint use of poles by these authorities and the Post Office where it is technically possible to do so. The practice has been going on for some time informally, and is being encouraged as much as possible.
