HC Deb 24 April 1952 vol 499 c35W
63. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Labour the ratio between the number of unfilled vacancies and the number of persons unemployed in the United Kingdom on a given date in March in each of the years from 1946 to 1952, inclusive.

Sir W. Monckton

I should emphasise that comparability between the figures for different years is materially affected by such circumstances as changes in legislation and administrative practice.

For every 100 persons registered as unemployed in Great Britain there were the following number of vacancies notified to employment exchanges and remaining unfilled:

March, 1946 173
March, 1947* 69
March, 1948 167
March, 1949 117
March, 1950 107
March, 1951 154
March, 1952 73
