HC Deb 21 April 1952 vol 499 cc1-2W
39. Mr. Erroll

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what reductions have been made in the staff of the British Middle East Office; and what further reductions are contemplated.

Mr. Eden

The Development Division of the British Middle East Office has been transferred from Cairo to Beirut. Owing to the extra cost of maintenance involved in this move, certain economies in administration will have to be made. Accordingly the services of one technical adviser are being dispensed with and certain other reductions in expenditure are being considered.
