asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many thefts of motor vehicles have been notified to the Metropolitan Police during the current year; and how many of these vehicles have been recovered up to date.

During the first 10 months of 1951, 5,988 motor vehicles were stolen or driven away without the owners' consent in the Metropolitan Police District. 3,965 were private motor cars, 1,112 were goods vehicles and 911 were motor cycles.

5,112 of these vehicles have been recovered—3,438 private motor cars, 1,040 goods vehicles and 634 motor cycles.
