75. Mr. Slater

asked the Secretary for Overseas Trade, as representing the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, what representations he has made to ensure that the anhydrite deposits at Billingham on Tees-side will be used for the production of sulphuric acid.

76. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Secretary for Overseas Trade, as representing the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, what action is being taken to use the large deposits of anhydrite in the area of Teesside for the manufacture of sulphuric acid to meet the world shortage of sulphur.

Mr. Hopkinson

There is already a substantial production of sulphuric acid from anhydrite in the Tees-side area and plans are in hand for a considerable increase in this output.
