HC Deb 28 November 1951 vol 494 cc155-6W
74. Colonel Stoddart-Scott

asked the Minister of Supply what clothing for the Armed Forces is being made abroad; and if, in view of the unemployment in the clothing industry in the West Riding, he will see that in future all contracts go to Yorkshire rather than to Holland, Greece, Belgium, Germany and Italy.

Mr. Low

No woollen cloth has been bought abroad, although some clothing is being made up on the Continent from cloth supplied from this country. A number of cotton cloths have been bought and some of these are being made up abroad. Recently supplies have become more plentiful in this country and my right hon. Friend is now reviewing the policy relating to the placing of further orders.
