HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 c131W
95. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Labour if, in order to check the present competition between separate unions for higher wages, he will consult with the Trade Union Congress and the employers' organisations for the establishment of a national wages policy.

Sir W. Monckton

It has been the policy of successive Governments, and one which this Government hopes to continue, to encourage the settlement of wages and connected questions so far as practicable by the two sides of industry through our traditional system of collective bargaining. It is my intention to maintain close and constant touch with all sides of industry on wages questions in relation to our economic circumstances.
