HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 cc140-1W
126. Mr. Foot

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give an estimate of how much public expenditure would be involved if all Army pensioners were to receive an increase in their pensions equivalent to that recently awarded to men who left the Service after 1st September, 1950; and what action he is proposing to assist those Army pensioners who did not receive the recent increase.

Mr. J. R. H. Hutchison

If all existing Army pensioners were to have their pensions reassessed to the new rates, irrespective of the rate of their existing pensions, the additional cost would be some £4½ million a year. This figure does not include any provision for terminal grants, which were given for the first time in the latest improvements.

In answer to the second part of the hon. Member's Question, I would refer him to the replies given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to Questions on this subject on 20th and 21st November.
