HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 c126W
72. Mr. Robson Brown

asked the Minister of Works whether he will make arrangements to postpone further capital expenditure on the building of the new Colonial Office in Parliament Square, and other Government offices, having regard to the urgent need for homes.

Mr. Eccles

The foundations of the new Colonial Office will be completed but present conditions make it necessary to defer the superstructure of the building. The building of new Government offices is for the time being prohibited except where work has begun or in other very special circumstances.
