HC Deb 26 November 1951 vol 494 cc108-9W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that the fish industry and the agricultural industry in the North of Scotland, by reason of their remoteness from the large consuming centres of Southern Scotland and of England, find difficulty in competing with the similar industries in England; that this is prejudicial to producers and consumers alike; and what steps he proposes to take to secure fair and equal treatment for all concerned.

Major Lloyd George

As regards fish distribution I told the hon. and learned Member on 12th November, the White Fish Authority are now considering the question of equalising transport charges.

I am not aware of serious difficulties in the case of farmers, but if the hon. and learned Member has any particular points in mind, I shall be glad to look into the matter.
