HC Deb 21 November 1951 vol 494 c52W
84. Mr. G. R. Howard

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what powers have been transferred to the German Federal Republic enabling them to prohibit the wearing of semi-military uniforms in Western Germany.

Mr. Nutting

At present the Allied High Commission has, under its Law No. 7, power to prohibit the wearing of any uniform of the former German armed forces, any uniform of the Nazi Party or of a para-military organisation, any uniform resembling the above and any distinctive dress or insignia tending to foster the resurgence of militarism or Nazism. This power will automatically be transferred to the German Federal Government when the new relationship now being evolved with Western Germany is fully established.
