HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c24W
Captain Bullock

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will increase both the total sum allowed to be invested in the Post Office Savings Bank and the annual limit.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

A draft Order, presented on 9th November, provides for the raising of the aggregate limit upon deposits in the Post Office Savings Bank and the Trustee Savings Banks from £2,000 to £3,000. The Order cannot be made until it has lain before Parliament for 40 days. I consider that the present annual limit of £500 is adequate, having regard to the fact that the savings banks are intended primarily for the small saver.
