HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c39W
Dr. King

asked the Secretary of State for War why the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes club in the centre of Southampton has been closed down; and whether Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes is making any alternative provision for troops in and around Southampton.

Mr. Head

This club was opened during the war and was never intended to be permanent. The lease on the premises was not renewed, since the conditions which justified the opening of the club no longer existed. The club is not being replaced. Units in the area, however, are provided with N.A.A.F.I. canteens in their barracks or stations.
