HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c18W
127. Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Minister of Transport what steps he will take to ensure that information which comes into the hands of a local authority while acting in the capacity of agent for a Government Department is not used for other purposes not connected with that Department.

Mr. Maclay

I understand that my hon. and gallant Friend has in mind information which local authorities obtain in their capacity as registration and licensing authorities for motor vehicles. I consider it undesirable that such authorities should use this information for their own purposes except, in keeping with the governing Regulations, in their capacity as a police authority and I am informing them accordingly. The Regulations define the circumstances in which this information is to be made available to other bodies.

Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Minister of Transport what steps he will take to ensure that information which comes into the hands of a local authority in Scotland in the course of acting as agent for a Government Department is not used for other purposes not connected with that Department.

Mr. Maclay

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply I have given today to a similar question by him.
