HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 cc29-30W
91. Mr. W. W. Astor

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will review all regulations restricting the size, quantity and contents of food parcels received from abroad.

Mr. Hopkinson

The existing arrangement permits the entry duty free and without import licence ofbona fide unsolicited gift food parcels addressed to individuals in this country provided that they are clearly marked as gifts and do not exceed 22 lb. gross in weight. There is no restriction on size other than that applicable to postal parcels, or on content, except on parcels from the Irish Republic.

I see no grounds at present for varying this arrangement.
