HC Deb 15 November 1951 vol 493 c63W
105. Mr. Slater

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the wife of a retired police officer who marries him during the course of his retirement does not qualify for pension at his decease; and what steps he is taking to provide for such cases.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

This point was fully considered by the Oaksey Committee on Police Conditions of Service, who reached the conclusion that the considerations which justify special provison for the widows of police officers do not apply where the marriage takes place after the husband has retired. I agree with the Committee's conclusion.
