HC Deb 15 November 1951 vol 493 c66W
107. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied that Thomas Kavanagh, aged 15 months, was taken from this country on 6th November with his parents' consent and if he will investigate this matter.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

It is the duty of the police to investigate when they have reason to suspect that a criminal offence may have been committed. The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis informs me that this child's parents both state that they consented to his journey to America for a holiday of three months at the end of which time a further decision would be taken about the boy's future.
