HC Deb 14 November 1951 vol 493 cc43-4W
69. Major Beamish

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what regulations are in force in Malaya regarding the use of soft or armoured vehicles when senior officials are travelling by road in areas in which bandits are known to operate: and in what type of vehicle the late Sir Henry Gurney was travelling at the time that he was killed.

Mr. Lyttelton:

The arrangements for the protection of senior officials while travelling by road in Malaya have now been revised and strengthened, but it would not be in the public interest to divulge particulars. At the time of his death Sir Henry Gurney was travelling in his official car, a Rolls Royce of standard design.
