asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is now-the position in regard to alien groups in illegal occupation of British territory in the Falkland Island Dependencies.

Mr. Lyttelton:

The latest available information is as follows:

  1. (a) Three Chilean parties are established:
    1. (i) Six men at Greenwich Island (S. Shetlands Group).
    2. 46
    3. (ii) Six men at Cape Legoupil (N.W. tip of Graham Land).
    4. (iii) An estimate of ten men at Paradise Harbour (W. coast of Graham Land), although they had not been established at the time of the last British visit.
  2. (b) Four, and possibly five, Argentine parties are established:
    1. (i) Eleven men at Laurie Island (South Orkney Group).
    2. (ii) Ten men at Deception Island (South Shetland Group).
    3. (ii) Four men at Paradise Harbour (see above).
    4. (iv) An uncertain number in the Melchior Islands (Palmer Archipelago, off the west coast of Graham Land).
    5. (v) A party of uncertain number may possibly be established (report not yet confirmed) at Marguerite Bay. (W. coast of Graham Land).
