asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local authorities in England and Wales have, since 1945, made advances under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts and the Housing Acts to enable people to buy their own houses; how much has been advanced; and for how many houses.

Mr. H. Macmillan:

The number of authorities is 921, including 19 county councils; the amount advanced up to 31st March, 1951, is £40,078,174 for 47,806 houses.
