HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 c258W
Major Lloyd

asked the Minister of National Insurance under what conditions workers on a four-day week can draw unemployment benefit for the remaining two days.

Dr. Summerskill

The interpretation of the rules in individual cases is a matter for the statutory authorities. Broadly speaking, however, benefit will only be payable for two days in a week during which a man has worked four days, if in addition to satisfying the ordinary conditions, (a) no wages are paid for these days and (b) the man's normal working week is more than four days.
