HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 c256W
85. Squadron Leader A. E. Cooper

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in view of the shortage of naphthalene for essential purposes, it is intended to take any action to secure its use only for such purposes.

Mr. Neal

It is not easy to discriminate between the various uses of naphthalene and to say that some are essential and others are not. The shortage of naphthalene has been caused largely by the increase in demand and action was taken early in February to restrict exports. Discussions are at present taking place between the naphthalene producers and the chemical industry on the general question of future supplies and new naphthalene plant is being installed. These measures should result in more naphthalene being made available, but it may be a little time before they can take effect.
