HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 c259W
Major Lloyd

asked the Minister of Supply how the inspectors in his Department of the armament products of the Royal Ordnance factories are recruited; whether they are permanent civil servants; and whether they are expected to belong to a trade union.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

My Department's armament inspectors, including those at the Royal Ordnance factories, are recruited through local employment exchanges or by promotion of existing Ministry of Supply employees. A substantial number are established civil servants. These employees are encouraged, but not required as a condition of service, to be members of a trade union or staff association.
