HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 cc262-4W
Mr. Low

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what steps he has taken with the Government of India to protect the interests of ex-members of the Secretary of State Services in India or Indian Army officers who are now resident in the Channel Islands, Eire and the Colonies and who are in receipt of pensions from the Government of India for which Indian tax is being deducted at source.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

A number of questions relating to the collection of Indian taxation on the pensions of ex-members of the Secretary of State's Services in India, and of Indian Army officers, remain to be settled. I am hoping that discussions on this question with the Indian authorities will take place shortly. These discussions will concern the levying of taxation on all pensioners resident outside India and will thus embrace the cases to which the hon. Member refers.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations when he expects to be in a position to deal with the case of Major A. K. Storey, details of which have been sent to him.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

Major Storey's claim to disability pension has been strongly represented to the Government of India, whose reply I await.
