HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 c248W
Squadron Leader A. E. Cooper

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what quantity of copper and nickel is used for our coinage per annum.

Mr. Jay

The production of coin is governed by public demand and other factors and varies from year to year. The quantity of copper and nickel used in 1949–50, the last year for which firm figures are available, was 892 tons and 242 tons respectively.
