Mr. Grimstonasked the Postmaster-General if he will alter the General Post Office alphabetical code to that agreed in the war between all the services of all the allies.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsThe possibility of having a uniform code was considered during the last war and has recently been reviewed in consultation with the Civil Defence and Service authorities. The difficulty is that the Post Office code has to be designed for use with the general public, whereas the other code 233W is used solely by trained personnel. In view of the advantages of the Post Office code in the public service, it has been agreed that it should be maintained.
