HC Deb 03 May 1951 vol 487 c163W
Mr. Carr

asked the Postmaster-General what was the number of applicants waiting for telephones in the borough of Mitcham on 1st January, 1950, and 1951; how many installations were made during 1950; and what is the longest period for which anyone has been waiting.

Mr. Ness Edwards

1,986 on 1st January, 1950, and 1,959 on 1st January, 1951. Three hundred and fifty-nine new subscribers were connected during 1950. The earliest outstanding application was made in 1943.

Mr. Carr

asked the Postmaster-General when it will be possible to install equipment in the extension to the Mitcham Telephone Exchange, which was completed in February, 1951.

Mr. Ness Edwards

The additional equipment is on order, but because of other more urgent commitments it is not at present possible to forecast when it is likely to be completed.
