HC Deb 03 May 1951 vol 487 cc155-6W
66. Mr. Lennox-Boyd

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what consultations have taken place with His Majesty's Government in the Dominion of Canada on the consequences to the sugar industry in the British West Indies of the proposed sugar agreement with Cuba, and its effects on the attitude of the Dominion of Canada to a similar agreement between Canada and Cuba.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

None. The position of the West Indian sugar industry under the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement will be taken fully into account in the negotiation of any agreement which we may conclude with Cuba. I am satisfied that any discussions which Canada may have had with Cuba have been in no way influenced by the United Kingdom's negotiations with Cuba.
