HC Deb 02 May 1951 vol 487 cc145-6W
65. Mr. Gammans

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what naval strength was available in the Persian Gulf at the outbreak of the trouble in the Persian oilfields; and why, in view of the fact that the situation had been threatening for some time, reinforcements were not sent earlier.

Mr. Callaghan

Two frigates were in the Persian Gulf. The disposition of His Majesty's Ships has been such as to facilitate the taking of any action that the situation might demand.
