§ Mr. P. Thorneycroftasked the Minister of Transport the total amount of money which he has recommended for loan sanction to the Treasury for the purposes of road construction and road repair by local authorities during the past 12 months; and what proportion of this sum represents proposed expenditure on new plant for roadmaking.
§ Mr. BarnesDuring the 12 months ended 28th February last the Treasury were recommended to sanction borrowing by local authorities for the purposes of road construction and road repair to a total amount of £1,897,421, of which £124,709 related to new plant. The sum recommended in respect of road construction and repair was about 40 per cent. of the total cost of the works, the remainder being met by grants from the Road Fund. No grants are made towards the cost of new plant.
