§ 81. Mr. T. Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that a sum of £2,000 has been donated by the Communist-controlled International Federation of Trade Unions to, and accepted by, a Nigerian trade union 290W built up on British lines with the help and guidance of the Trades Union Congress; and if he will have this union de-registered.
§ Mr. J. GriffithsI am aware of reports to this effect, but it is not possible to say definitely what transactions may have taken place or who may have been the actual recipients of any money that may have passed. In any event, Nigerian law does not provide for cancelling a union's registration on such grounds alone. There are of course other, and better, ways of countering Communist activity.
