HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 cc281-2W
63. Mr. Crouch

asked the Minister of Food whether he will consider issuing an amending statement to Statutory Instrument, 1951, No. 319, Supplies and Services (Food) (Meat Products) omitting, in the definition of milk powder, the words "buttermilk or whey."

Mr. Webb

The trade will be advised by the Sausage Makers' Association to use skimmed milk powder, and I see no reason why they should try to use unsuitable types of milk powder. In any case, the available supplies of whey powder are largely used for animal feeding compounds, and it is therefore improbable that a sausage maker could get any. But I do not want any misunderstanding to arise on this matter. I therefore propose to help the trade by making an appropriate amendment to the Order.
